City of walls and a prison
Sinop is an old port city built on the neck of a peninsula reaching into the Black Sea. Part of the walls that ringed the city still stand; the historic prison inside the castle was in use until 1997 and can be visited today.
What to see

- Sinop Castle walls: the surviving sections of the walls on the harbour side and in the north of the city.
- Sinop Archaeology Museum: finds from the region, from antiquity to the Ottoman period.
Practical information
- About 420 km by road from Ankara; 5–6 hours via Kastamonu or Boyabat.
