Hattusa at Boğazkale was the capital of the Hittite Empire and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Lion Gate, the King's Gate, the tunnel beneath Yer Kapı and the Great Temple are the highlights of the site.

The nearby open-air sanctuary of Yazılıkaya has rock reliefs of Hittite gods. Alacahöyük can be visited on the same day.
